Mission Hill

Mission Hill is an emerging neighborhood located within minutes of some of Boston’s most cherished places, public transportation nodes, the Longwood Medical Center, and many schools such as Northeastern and Harvard Medical School. A mix of walkable neighborhood services, grocery stores, proximity to public transit, and vacant spaces is what sparked our team to begin working to apply new urbanist approaches to the redevelopment of several key sites along the neighborhood’s main street, Tremont Street. 

The neighborhood has a storied history of development, moving from agricultural land to a diversity of uses in the 1800s, spurred by a rerouting of the Muddy River and the addition of a green line streetcar. Industry and residences popped up, including a robust collection of breweries, brick mills, and civic structures. 

In 2011, Principle embarked on a strategic partnership with New Urban Partners to join the development team with the goal of creating a series of context sensitive, mixed-use infill projects and a unique new public space. In total, this project will consist of multiple new buildings on scattered sites as well as several historic renovations of existing structures with a curated ground floor commercial program that will help to further define Tremont Street as a vibrant neighborhood center.
